The Line of Sight Fellowship is conceived of as a long term yearly fellowship with rotating themes that are generated from the previous year’s cohort. Our 2021-2022 Fellowship is open to all filmmakers working with Asian American themes and in the spirit of discovery and experimentation. The Fellowship’s activities will encourage collision (temporal, artistic, generational) and turn these acts of colliding into conceptually, politically, and aesthetically forward-thinking yet rooted films, conversations, and possible futures.
The foremost intent of the Fellowship is to provide financial and intellectual support for selected filmmakers to advance their craft:
-
Monthly facilitated meetings on Zoom between the entire cohort. Each filmmaker fellow will be paired with a mentor filmmaker. Together, the pair will co-lead once during the Fellowship, in ways that allow for sharing influences, robust private debate, and relational capacity-building
-
A framework and check-ins to encourage one-on-one meetings and relationship-building between Mentors and Fellows
-
As this Fellowship is practice-based and not project-based, the yearlong programming will culminate in a public presentation of a current project or a line of inquiry, in whatever form Fellows feel is most suitable
-
Follow-up conversations with Fellows and Mentors that shape the direction of future years of the Fellowship, including its thematic interests
-
US$3750 honorarium
The Mentors for the first Fellowship are Roddy Bogawa, Rea Tajiri, Tran T. Kim-Trang, Marlon Fuentes, Jon Moritsugu.
The applications for this Fellowship are now closed. All applicants will be notified by September 2021.
